Altar Guild
At a convention of the National Altar Guild Association, the Rt. Reverend Jeff Fisher of Texas stated: “Altar Guilds are the preparers, keepers, and transmitters of some of the coolest stuff we have in the Episcopal Church.” Our Altar Guild prepares for each worship service, assembling the vessels used for Holy Communion, the wine and bread, and the colorful hangings and vestments. Some of these "tools of worship" come from our rich tradition, such as the altar, dating from 1909, and altar vases donated by Christ Church Class #5 in 1897 (Christ Church Book of Memorials). More recent additions include hangings sewn by our own Kendall Abbott.
These items provide a visual message that can be just as powerful as the music, liturgy and sermon.
We always welcome new Altar Guild members, men and women. It’s a valuable and rewarding use of time and talent. To learn more, visit with any of the present members or stop by the sacristy to see what Altar Guild does.
